Air Duct Cleaning

Air conditioning is one of the most consequential inventions of the 20th century. An evaporator coil converts liquid refrigerant into a gas, and the cool air it creates is fanned out through tubes with exit points across the home. It's led to an incredible increase in quality of life. However, your AC system needs attention from time to time, and that maintenance can't focus on the AC unit alone; your air ducts should also be inspected and cleaned.

As air is cycled through the AC system, small particles, including dirt, dust, and contaminants, make their way in. Those pollutants come from inside and out, with oils and smoke from grills and cigarettes, chemicals from outside, soot from fires, and any other pollutant you can think of seeping inside your home or business. Although your filters help weed out some toxins, a small portion piles up within the air ducts. The dirtier they become, the more those toxins get into your living or working space.

Moisture can also seep into the ducts, leading to mold and mildew development. Those produce spores that can irritate anyone and lead to allergic reactions in those especially sensitive. It may be because of mold if you notice yourself sneezing more often or experiencing a runny nose, irritated, red eyes, and skin rashes.

Another reason to have your air ducts tended to is to check on their insulation and sealing. If the ducts leak, it can add hundreds of dollars annually to your energy bills. It can also allow built-up dirt within the ducts to escape. Some ducts need patches, while others may need rearranging to ensure they transport temperature-regulated air most effectively. Cleaning out the ducts can also help them run more efficiently, lowering your bills.

This task isn't one you should attempt to take on by yourself. Experts use special tools to extricate dirt and dust, loosening and then vacuuming it with high-powered vacuums. Then, the technicians can work on mold, mildew, or microbial contaminants that have formed, applying treatments that get rid of them on the spot and keep them from quickly re-forming. They'll also look for duct leaks and clean out the grills, coils, drip pans, motors, and more that allow the system to operate better. It's a balancing act that requires delicacy, so the system isn't damaged, but it must be done with some elbow grease to ensure things get clean. If a portion of the system isn't cleaned properly, the dirt and dust from that area can spread through the ducts again, negating the rest of the work. That's why it's so important that the task is carried out by a trained professional.
